Nearly
152 years ago, a group of dedicated Providence women saw a
need. In May of 1856, these women fulfilled this need. As
the doors of Tockwotton Home swung wide for the very first
time, they realized what they had brought to this city--a
warm, comfortable, and secure environment established to care
for older adults for years to come.
Perhaps
those women never realized the full impact of what they had
accomplished. Since 1856, those doors have been opened by
countless people. Many sought shelter and a helping hand,
but most sought independence and the opportunity to live the
rest of their lives to the fullest--a tradition that continues
to be fulfilled to this very day.

Much
has changed in the last century and a half. One thing, however,
has remained constant: the ideal envisioned by the women who
were responsible for opening these doors in 1856. We have
done everything necessary to make sure you can expect the
same commitment and vision from us today and everyday thereafter.
